[anonymous novel] (excerpt)

The author of this YA fantasy novel requested developmental editing focusing on the characters, structure, and plot of the story. As I read the book, I considered its genre and intended audience. I made suggestions about how to improve scenes as well as the plot and the main characters so that the story would appeal to a teenage audience. For instance, I suggested that the main characters be younger and less experienced in their professions. The author applied many of my suggestions and has continued to ask for my advice.
